Mazhar Khan, a student with us for 4 years, has joined his father to help him in painting work. He is a very useful member of the family now.

Gajendra, a student with us for 4 years, takes care of a petty shop at his house. He contributes to the family income, a fact that makes him and his family happy and proud.

Prashanth, a student with us for 3 years, helps his father in his work as an Attender in an office in Bhadravathi.

Niranjan has started a small provision store that he runs with the support of his mother. It’s a delight to see his growth and capabilities.

For Pradeep by Salesian Missionaries of Mary Immaculate (SMMI)

“The improvement in Pradeep’s behaviour is not much visible. He is calm, we do not hear him much. He is more interested in other children’s games and tries to follow them but fails when they run. He says a few simple words clearly now, not his name which is too complicated. He seems to be less interested in electricity. Before he would climb on a chair to reach electrical fittings and do some mischief there. It was dangerous, of course. Once, some months ago, we were deprived of electricity because of Pradeep. Now, it does not happen anymore.”

For Uma by Salesian Missionaries of Mary Immaculate (SMMI)

“In the last one year, Uma has improved in her behaviour. She is still hyperactive but less nervous and does not get angry as frequently. She still screams but rarely. She does not tear her clothes anymore and does not scratch herself till she bleeds as before. Also, she does not beat or bite the other children as previously. She speaks clearly but is still unable to have a conversation per her age. She is good at sweeping, swabbing and is ever ready to do. She writes her name in English and Kannada. Her sleep is good. She is not restless as before. She plays with other children. But soon she gets distracted and goes away.”

Even a little progress in the area of mental retardation or intellectual disability is a major milestone. There are many such children who have been trained and helped in rehabilitation, but the details of their placements are not clearly known to us. Hence, we have not quoted them.
